President of Gamma Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Elected Next Georgia District Director

ALBANY, GA - At the recent 59th Anniversary Convention of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Georgia District Association in Augusta,

Georgia, Benny G. Hand was elected as the next Georgia District Director. 

Campaigning on a 7-Point Plan of Action for the District, his theme was “A Strong Hand for LeadershipHand was initiated into Delta Delta Chapter at Albany State College (University) on Nov. 18, 1984. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.

As a member of Delta Delta, he served as “Dean of Pledges,” Vice President and President of the Chapter.

As a member of the Gamma Omicron Lambda Chapter, he has served as President on three (3) occasions (including the current administration), served as Chairman of the Education Foundation; Chapter Advisor for Delta Delta Chapter (1994- Present); authored a Grant to obtain the Chapter’s Education Building Complex; and Chairman – Gamma Omicron Lambda’s Centennial Celebration (2006) and is also a Life Member of the Fraternity.

Hand has served the Georgia District in various capacities:  Deputy District Director (2002-2004) and (2012 – Present); Resource Development Chairman of the Georgia Alpha Education Foundation (2009 – Present); Chairman – Georgia District Convention (2008) Albany, Georgia; Chairman – District Tag Initiative (2013 – 2014); Area Director (Area #4 (2004 – 2013); IMDP Trainer (2012 – Present); Chief Dean of South Georgia Cluster (2012 – Present); Cluster Coordinator (2004 – 2012); authored Project Alpha March of Dimes Georgia District Grant (2013 – 2014).

He is a strong man of faith as a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where the Rev. Dr. Daniel Simmons serves as Senior Pastor and is also a member of the fraternity.  He is a member of the Deacons’ Ministry, Leader of the New Members’ Ministry Team, Family Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Boys to Men Mentoring Program and Author of Religious Educational Material.

Community leadership and involvement is manifested through service on the Dougherty County Democratic Committee, Board of Directors – Bethel Housing Community Development Corp, Board of Directors – Mt. Zion Gardens Apartments, Inc., and T-Ball, Baseball and Basketball Coach – Sherwood Ministries Church League.

Hand is a Laureate of the Bank of America Leadership Academy, Consultant for the Southern Rural Development, Inc., 4-time Alpha Man of the Year for Gamma Omicron Lambda Chapter; Outstanding Young Men of America, Certificate of Distinguished Service Recipient (Georgia District, 2001 – 2005); College Brother of the Year (Delta Delta Chapter) and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Hand is a strong family man:  married to the former Kelli Williams, they are the proud parents of Gregory and McKenzie.

He is an experienced Servant-Leader with thirty-plus (30+) continuous years of proven leadership and achievement; consequently, he is well prepared to accept the mantle of leadership that the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Georgia District will require to meet the challenges of the future.
